Ready your Home for christmas

Get your house ready for Christmas

If you’ve got friends and family coming to stay for Christmas, you’ll know how stressful it can be. Organisation and preparation are key to being able to relax and enjoy yourself over the festive period, so now’s the time to get your home ready.

Once your house fills up with guests, it may be a while before you can get in to all the rooms tidy up. Take advantage of the calm before the storm, and give rooms a really thorough clean, so they’ll only need a quick wipe over nearer the time. Start with a thorough dust, including window ledges, skirting boards and light switches as well as furniture.
Next, clean guest bathrooms. Tidy any toiletries or clutter out of the way, and give all the toilet, bath, shower and hand basin a really thorough clean, including around rims and edges where dirt can linger. Don’t forget to clean the underside of taps, the top of the toilet roll holder and the shower curtain rails.
Next, vacuum. Take up all the sofa and chair cushions and vacuum behind them, then take up all the rugs and lay them aside. Move furniture wherever possible so you can clean underneath. Don’t forget to run the vacuum along the angles where the floor meets the walls. Clean fabric lampshades with the vacuum on a low setting, and dust bulbs if necessary.
In the kitchen, clean the oven and wipe the hob, fridge and microwave. This is also a good opportunity to throw out any unneeded leftovers to make some room for bulky Christmas food. Give the sink area a thorough clean and don’t forget to wipe around the dishwasher door, which is often covered in splashes. Clean the area round the bin, and disinfect the bin itself. Clean windows inside and out, and don’t forget to polish mirrors. Finally, brush and mop any hard floors.
The day before guests arrive, give furniture cleaning a light dust and clean floors and bathrooms. Add fresh flowers to sitting and dining rooms, and make the beds up.
Your guests will now be so comfortable they won’t want to leave – which could be a problem in itself!
